About

I am an Associate Professor of Philosophy at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore. I have been at NTU since 2011, and I was Head of Philosophy there from 2018 to 2021. I was a Predoctoral Fellow at the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science in 2011, and a Fellow at the Radcliffe Insitute for Advanced Study at Harvard University in 2017-2018. I am an Associate Editor for HOPOS: The Journal of the International Society for the History of Philosophy of Science, and I am on the Editorial Boards of the journals Philosophy of Science, Studies in History and Philosophy of Science, and the Journal of Analytic Philosophy
Here's a short biography. I was born in Japan, and grew up in California. I went to Caltech for my BS in Applied Physics. I spent a few years as an engineer in Japan for an electronics company, after which I spent several more years there as a freelance translator. Most of my translation work was for Japanese media companies. I subsequently went back to the United States to get an MA in Philosophy at Tufts University, and then a PhD in Philosophy at Stanford University. I am fluent in both English and Japanese, but all of my published work so far is in English.
